The release of GTA 5 Online was a major turning point for Rockstar Games, as ever since then their focus towards online gaming has increased a lot. But most might not be aware that even before the release of GTA Online, Rockstar has tried integrating Online multiplayer in their games, by adding the Social Club. However unfortunately, after 13 years of existence Rockstar has shut down the Social Club service. Let’s take a detailed look at what has happened!
Rockstar Games Social Club
First spotted by Ben (@videotechuk_) via X, he reported that Rockstar’s Social Club has finally shut down! It was noticed that the official website for the service is not longer usable. Instead, the website not redirects to the home page of Rockstar Games. Ben also reported that options like viewing profiles, walls, photos and video viewing are no longer possible too.
Users have reported some major issues with the Social Club in the past, so it was pretty evident that the service has not been functioning properly since quite a while. Accounts getting hacked through the service was one of the major complaints put up by most users, so it is a good thing that the service has been shutdown for now. But what about the future?
Preparation for GTA 6?
Well, with less than a year left for GTA 6 to release, it is pretty much safe to assume that Rockstar is likely working on an improved platform! Social Club saw it’s last major redesign, even before the release of GTA 5, so before GTA 6 comes out, Rockstar would want to make big improvements to the service, given the heavy demand for the game.
