Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has a bunch of games that are going to release this year. Aside from Rockstar Games’ GTA 6, 2K is also releasing a new game in the Borderlands series. Recently the release date for Borderlands 4 was announced, and that might have given us an idea of when GTA 6 could be released.
Borderlands 4 might have revealed GTA 6’s release date
According to a recent report by Kotaku, 2K Games announced the release date for Borderlands 4, which is September 23. Given that Take-Two Interactive is the parent company for both Rockstar and 2K Games. It could be possible the release date for Borderlands was announced after taking into consideration the release date of GTA 6. As they wouldn’t want both their games to collide and be released in the same month.
Trailer 1 for GTA 6 mentioned that the game would be released by Fall 2025. Fall starts in September, and that’s when Borderlands 4 launches. That leaves out two months, which are October and November. Given that the Call of Duty games come out during that month, it is highly unlikely that Rockstar would release their game that month. So October is the ideal month in which the game could be released.

Not only this, but the release date of late October makes sense, as October 28 is the last Tuesday of the month. Rockstar has a history of releasing their games on Tuesday, so they could release the game on that day. October is also the month in which Rockstar has released a lot of its games. A few examples are GTA 3, Vice City, Bully, Manhunt 2, and Red Dead Redemption 2.
The official announcement post on the 2K website mentions, “Borderlands 4 is our most ambitious title to date, delivering more looter shooter Mayhem than ever before. We’re excited to announce that Borderlands 4 is launching on September 23, 2025! Get ready to break free and wreak havoc on the dangerous new planet Kairos later this year.”
2K has said that the full Borderlands 4 gameplay reveal will debut during Sony’s State of Play later this spring. The developers are set to release the game on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Along with that, the game will also be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X consoles.
