If you’ve been playing games since the 2010s, then you might remember a certain game franchise, Saints Row! It was one of the closest competitors of the GTA series, well, until the studio behind it, Violation, unfortunately, closed. Years after the studio got shut down, one of the executives of Saber Interactive has revealed more details about Violation’s sudden and unfortunate shutdown. Let’s check out what he had to say!
What happened to Saints Row?
Saints Row was once called GTA on steroids, back when Saints Row 4 came out in 2013, by many people. The franchise had a huge fanbase and people loved their game. Unfortunately, the developers took a wrong turn and rebooted the series. They launched what is known to be an abomination and what eventually killed the series, their reboot from 2022 “Saints Row.”
Very recently, Matthew Karch the founder of Saber Interactive was interviewed by Game File. While the interview mainly focused on the relationship between Saber Interactive and the Embracer group, we did get to know a few more snippets about what had gone wrong with the studio behind Saints Row, Violation.

Karch was very honest with his answers. Upon being asked about the studio he said, “They didn’t know what they were building. They didn’t have any real direction. It couldn’t last. And so, who’s going to fund them for the next game after that disaster?” Not only this, but he also slammed the studio, and said, the game had “nine-figure budgets” but it managed to bring in eight figures in revenue, calling it not so sustainable.
In other news, the experts over at Digital Foundry recently took a deep dive into the GTA 5 Enhanced edition’s graphical options on the newly released PC version. There, they found some interesting, well according to them the update showcases Ray Traced Global Illumination, which tells a lot more about what to expect from GTA 6.
