Take-Two’s CEO On GTA 6: Development Cycle, Budget And More Revealed

Take-Two’s Investor Call meeting took place a few days back, and it revealed details like the budget for GTA 6. Well, along with the meeting, Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, was also recently interviewed. There, he gave out even further details that have been unknown so far. So let’s take a look at everything we’ve heard ever since the investor’s call!

GTA 6 Development Cycle

Just recently, it was reported that development on GTA 6 began in 2018. A former Rockstar artist said that he started working on the game right after the work on Red Dead Redemption 2 got over. But well, now Take-Two has officially made a statement talking about the development of the game. As per them, the development of the game began in 2020.

Their statement reads, “Grand Theft Auto VI began development in earnest in 2020 following the massive success of Red Dead Redemption 2” Well, given the statement made by the Former Artist, it is a bit confusing. But most likely, chances are, the game went into pre-production back in 2018, with full production starting in 2020.

GTA 6 Budget

Rumours about the budget of GTA 6 have been floating around for a long time. Some reports suggest that the game is easily costing the company over a billion dollars to make. But well, the important thing to note here is that these figures are just estimated values. Take-Two Interactive has not confirmed anything so far. Based on the estimates, it is safe to say that GTA 6 is likely going to be the most expensive game to make so far.

“Most Anticipated Entertainment Property”

Along with all the other things, Take-Two also acknowledged the hype for the game. They’ve called GTA 6 the “most anticipated entertainment property of all time.” If you recall, it was reported that Trailer 2 crossed 475 million views within 24 hours. In the meeting, they mentioned the same record while talking about the game.

The statement reads, “Consumer anticipation is unprecedented, with Trailer 2’s cross-platform debut last week shattering records to become the biggest video launch of all time, with over 475 million views in 24 hours. This follows Trailer 1’s record-breaking debut of 93 million views in 24 hours on YouTube alone.”

Take-Two’s CEO on GTA 6

After the Investor’s Call was over, Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s CEO, was interviewed by CNBC. While the interview focused on Take-Two in general, we did get to hear a lot of interesting things about the game from him. First of all, he said that, “Rockstar Games are trying to create the best thing anyone’s ever seen in entertainment”

Next up, Zelnick mentioned the delay for the game. He said that the delay is not that big, and mentioned that it has only been delayed by about six months. Given his statement, it is safe to assume that the game was originally planned for a November release. Interestingly enough, in the same interview, we also got to know that Zelnick himself is not much of a gamer.

You can watch the full interview from here:

While GTA 6’s pricing wasn’t talked about in the interview, Zelnick talked about video game pricing in general. He was also asked about video game pricing by a shareholder, to which he replied, “Pricing is set at the label level in the context of the individual release. We have had variable pricing here for a very long time.” Furthermore, he continued, “We want to focus on value. We want to deliver way, way, way more value to a consumer than whatever that consumer pays, that’s our job.”
