The topic of AI has been a steaming discussion worldwide over the past few years! Given the developments made, at this point, AI has also started taking up jobs of many individuals in many different sectors. One of those sectors has been the gaming industry as well. But what does the CEO of one of the biggest video gaming companies think about this? The CEO of Take-Two Interactive recently voiced his opinion on the same, and his thoughts were quite clear. So let’s take a look at what Strauss Zelnick said about AI, and it becoming a rival for video game developers!
“AI Can’t Rival Human Game Developers,” Says Zelnick
In his recent interview with CNBC, Zelnick voiced his opinions on the discussion of AI. First of all, he started off talking about IPs, and on that point, he said, “We have to protect our intellectual property, but more than that, we have to be mindful of others.” Adding more to that, he also said, “If you create intellectual property with AI, it’s not protectable.”
Later on, as the discussion moved forward, Zelnick was also asked if a franchise like GTA could ever be made by AI. To that, he said, “Let’s say there were no constraints [on AI]. Could we push a button tomorrow and create an equivalent to the ‘Grand Theft Auto’ marketing plan?” he said. “The answer is no. A, you can’t do that yet, and B, I am of the view that you wouldn’t end up with anything very good. You end up with something pretty derivative.”
Adding to this, we also learned about Zelnick’s view of creativity and why he suggests AI may never rival actual human game developers. “The team’s creativity is extraordinary, and what [Take-Two subsidiary] Rockstar Games tries to do, and so far has done over and over again, is create something that approaches perfection,” he said. “There is no creativity that can exist by definition in any AI model, because it is data-driven,” Strauss added.
