Rockstar Games has just announced that the original Red Dead Redemption from 2010 is getting ported over to mobile devices! Along with mobile, the game is also getting updated for current-gen consoles, including the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch 2. The game will come out next month, on December 2nd, so let’s take a look at everything that is new!
Red Dead Redemption on Mobile Devices
First up, for the mobile version, Rockstar has announced that the original Red Dead Redemption is being ported to iOS and Android devices. In their announcement, Rockstar mentioned that the game comes with mobile-friendly control options as well. Just like the GTA Definitive Trilogy, active Netflix subscribers will also be able to download and play the game when it gets released on December 2.
Here are some screenshots from the mobile version of the game:
In their announcement post on their newswire, Rockstar Games said, “On December 2, the epic Western adventures Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare will be available for the latest mobile devices and on current generation consoles — with free upgrades, the ability to carry over game progress, and a number of enhancements.”
Red Dead Redemption on Next-Gen Consoles
Along with mobile devices, Red Dead Redemption will also be updated for next-gen consoles. This includes the PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series X|S, and, along with that, the Nintendo Switch 2. Rockstar says that the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game will have 4k with 60fps support, along with enhanced image quality and HDR support too.
However, on the Nintendo Switch 2, there have been some major upgrades! Rockstar said that they’ve taken full advantage of the new hardware as the game adds support for DLSS, along with HDR. While the resolution details are yet to come out, it has also been announced that the game will support mouse controls from the upgraded Joy-Con 2.

Free Upgrade for Existing Owners
Rockstar Games has also announced that this update will be free for existing owners of the game! Anyone who has the PS4, Nintendo Switch, or the Xbox One version of the game will be able to upgrade digitally for free. Not only that, but saves will not be impacted either, as previous owners can also use their previous save data on PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 systems. However, no notes have been made regarding the Xbox Series X|S systems.
Good news for PlayStation Users
If you’re a PlayStation gamer, then there’s more good news! On their official X handle, PlayStation has also announced that Red Dead Redemption will be joining the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue lineup on the 2nd of December. Sony has confirmed that the PS Plus version of Red Dead Redemption includes both the base PlayStation 4 & 5 versions.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Next-Gen Update Speculation
If you’re a fellow Red Dead Redemption fan like us, then surely you must have heard about the RDR2 next-gen update speculations! Just a few weeks back, it was reported that Red Dead Redemption 2 could be getting the much-needed update. Along with that, it was also reported that the game will be coming out on Nintendo Switch 2 as well.

However, with the release of the original Red Dead Redemption on mobile devices today, it is hard to say anything! There have been no new reports suggesting the RDR2 release date. So it is hard to say if Rockstar does end up releasing RDR2’s next-gen update this year or not. But anyway, if there is any update on the situation, we’ll make sure to update our post!
