While Rockstar may be busy working on GTA 6, we have to admit, there is a huge fanbase for some of the Classic Rockstar titles. One of those includes Bully, a game which was released almost 20 years back. But well, you’d be shocked to know that even after so long, fans of the game have been working on something incredible. Recently, it was announced that an Online Mod for Bully is in works. So today let’s check out everything that the mod brings to the game!
“Bully Online” Adds An Online Mode To A Classic Title
To give some context, the mod is being developed by a bunch of people who are a fan of the game. The initial announcement for the online mod was made by the modder with a dedicated video where he also showcased some of the features. He said, “We finally have an online mode for Bully that allows you and your friends to play minigames, roleplay, compete in racing, fend off against NPCs, and much more!” You can check out the full video here:
One of the questions which would come in mind to anyone is, how does it even work? I mean, given that the game is almost 20 years old at this point, how come it’s possible. Well, the developer of the mod, did give an explanation to that too. He said, “Bully Online runs on the DSL script loader, which is a plugin for Bully that essentially allows for a more versatile approach to modding. A lot of the things we thought were impossible just a few years ago can now be done, including making an online mode.”
As of now, the mod is not available to the public. However the developer has stated that it will be available to the people who support the mod by donating a one time 8$ fee. He said, “We do have an official server for Bully Online, and we plan on making that available to the public to enjoy in due time.” This move has generated a bit of hatred towards the mod, given that there is still a large chance Rockstar could take down this mod!
Could Rockstar Take Down This Mod?
Well, Rockstar Games have had a history of not entertaining any sort of fan-made mods for their games. On this note, the makers of the mod have clarified on a few things. In a tweet they said the following: “If Take-Two or Rockstar Games have any problems with what we’re doing, then they can easily reach me to discuss it.”
The tweet says that they aren’t doing anything wrong given that the mod requires a legal copy of the game. And also, it does not redistribute any game files, or competes with any Take-Two Interactive property as well. Given that it only modifies the game executable and loads content made by them, they suggest nothing should go wrong.
