Dan Houser Reveals Why Agent Trevor DLC For GTA 5 Was Cancelled

Before GTA Online took over, Rockstar Games had a ton of DLCs planned for GTA 5. Just like the single-player DLCs that we got to see with GTA 4, originally, GTA 5 was meant to have a lot of content too. However, they were later scrapped in favour of GTA Online. But that’s not the whole story. Dan Houser, ex-Rockstar Co-Founder, has revealed that Agent Trevor, one of the planned DLCs for GTA 5, was almost “half-finished” before it got scrapped.

Agent Trevor DLC Was Scrapped Because of Red Dead Redemption 2

In his recent interview on the Lex Fridman Podcast, we got to learn a lot about Dan Houser. While the podcast mainly focused on Dan’s personal life, we also learned a lot about his work at Rockstar Games. In one of the segments, the interviewer asked Dan about DLCs he would have made for the games he worked on. On that, Dan replied, “Of course, there are always things I wish I’d done.” He further added, “The internet knows we made a single-player DLC for GTA 5 which never came out.”

Now let’s talk about the infamous Trevor’s DLC, which was scrapped. Houser talked about the particular Agent Trevor DLC and said, “It was one where you played as Trevor as a secret agent. It was cute. It never quite came together and it was never finished. It was about half done when it got abandoned. But I think if that had come out we probably wouldn’t have got to make Red Dead 2, so there’s always compromises.”

A few years back, Trevor Actor Steven Ogg confirmed the existence of a single-player DLC. In an interview, he had said, “Trevor was gonna be undercover – he works for the feds. And we did shoot some of that stuff with ‘James Bond Trevor’ – he’s still kind of a f*** up, but he’s doing his best to pretend to be like [a secret agent]. We shot some stuff and then it just disappeared and [Rockstar] never did it, they never followed up on it,”

The podcast also revealed that Dan Houser supports the idea of a single-player DLC model. In the same podcast, he said, “For me, I love the model of GTA 4 where we had the extra stories coming afterwards. Or Red Dead 1 when you had the zombie pack coming afterwards, I like just doing these extra things. So I personally would have liked to have done more of that in that company.” It will be very interesting to see if Houser follows the same path with his projects at Absurd Ventures or not.

Personally, I would have liked seeing more GTA 5 single-player content. But with that said, what are your thoughts on the cancelled DLCs for GTA 5? Would you have liked to see more single-player content for GTA 5? Or do you prefer the updates made to GTA Online? Well, in any case, do let us know your thoughts by tagging us on Instagram and X.
