Since 2021, Rockstar Games has been following a tradition of releasing remasters every year. The GTA Definitive trilogy was released in 2021, while GTA 5 Remaster was released in 2022, and 2023 and 2024 saw the re-release of the original Red Dead Redemption. Well, it looks like 2025 will be no different, as it is being reported that a port for GTA 4 has been in development for modern consoles. Let’s check out the news in brief!
GTA 4 Port for Modern Consoles
First spotted by Ben (@videotechuk_) via X, the popular GTA Insider Tez2 reported that a GTA 4 port is in development. He said, “Someone at R* hinted at the IV port, and by now it should’ve gone up a year in development. We may end up seeing it drop later this year.” We don’t have much information about the port so far. But it is possible that the port would be similar to the Red Dead Redemption port for modern consoles.
Given the GTA 6 delay, it is likely that Rockstar could release the port this year. Furthermore, Tez2 also shared his thoughts on why the port would be in development. As per him, the take-down of the Liberty City Preservation Project could be a major hint at the port. He said, “In addition to existing reasons, the LCPP mod was taken down.”
As for the future games, we got a hint towards what could be next. Tez2 believes that after GTA 4 is ported over to modern consoles, the Max Payne 3 port will be in development. Given the release of Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes, there is a possibility. He said, “That is an opportunity to do a bundle or a Definitive Edition. Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes, and a Max Payne 3 port.”

In other news, it was recently reported that development on GTA 6 began in 2018. This was reported by a Former Rockstar Artist, who has worked there for over 12 years. He has worked on games like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. In one of his videos, he said that the development of GTA 6 started in 2018, after RDR2 was released.
