What Platforms Will GTA 6 Be Available On?

With less than a year left for GTA 6 to release, one of the most important questions that still needs to be answered is, where can you even play the game on? So we thought, why not discuss this in a detailed way, while listing all the platforms that the game has been confirmed to release on. Along with that, we’ll also discuss about some of the rumored platforms that the GTA 6 could be released on. So let’s check them out in detail!

GTA 6 Confirmed Platforms

First of all, it is important to know about the confirmed platforms that GTA 6 is indeed coming out on! This list right here, includes the platforms which have been confirmed by Rockstar themselves, in their trailers. So without wasting much time left’s dive right in.

PlayStation 5

No surprises here, as the PlayStation 5 is indeed one of the confirmed platforms to be getting GTA 6. Rumours suggest that the PlayStation 5 has been the lead console during development for the game. The news came after it was confirmed that the entire Trailer 2, had been captured on the Base PlayStation 5, which has hyped up gamers ever since! However, gamers have been a bit disappointed after learning that the game will be running at 30fps on the console.

The reasoning behind it seems to be the heavy utilisation of Ray-Traced Global Illumination. Experts suggested that the Base PS5 will struggle to keep up with the game at 60fps. But nonetheless, another rumour that has been going around suggests that PlayStation is likely working with Rockstar for a Marketing Deal on GTA 6. So chances are, we might see a PlayStation 5 and GTA 6 Bundle next year!

If you’re into the PlayStation ecosystem, then chances are you’d also be aware of the PlayStation 5 Pro! A bit more powerful than the regular console, experts have noted that GTA 6 will indeed be taking advantage of the extra power to deliver a better experience. However, unlike the base model, the frame rate on the Pro model is still unconfirmed.

Take it with a grain of salt, but recently, a not-so-popular leaker, Detective Seeds, suggested via X that GTA 6 has been running at 60fps on the PS5 Pro. He also suggested that the PS engineers are assisting with the optimisation for the game on the PS5 Pro. So, as per him, GTA 6 could have multiple graphical options on the PS5 Pro.

Xbox Series X|S

Aside from PlayStation, the only other console which will be seeing GTA 6 on release are the Xbox Series X and Series S. Given how similar both the Xbox Series X and the base PlayStation 5 perform, when up against each other, chances are both gamers might get a similar experience. However, there is a slight caveat on the Xbox side.

In case you’re going to be playing GTA 6 on the Series S, then you might want to lower your expectations. From what experts have suggested so far, the Xbox Series S will have troubles keeping up with it’s big brother, the Series X. Given the much lower power of the console, experts have suggested that graphical sacrifices will have to be made.

A big sacrifice will come on the resolution, as experts suggest the game will most likely run at 720P on the console. But nonetheless, the game is indeed coming to the Series S, as Take-Two’s CEO has confirmed that their engineers will work on it, in an interview. It’ll be interesting to see, how well the game can run on the cheapest next-gen console!

What About The PS4 and Xbox One?

If you’re still playing games on your old PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles, I hate to break it up to you, but both these consoles will not be getting GTA 6. Rockstar officially confirmed this back when Trailer 1 for GTA 6 was released. However, the new Trailer 2 has pretty much confirmed, that GTA 6 will not be able to run on the last-gen consoles.

While the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have had a ton of great games throughout their lifespan, it is the best time to upgrade to either the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X|S. Not only will you be able to play GTA 6, on the release date itself, however, with the improvements made, the gaming and the overall experience will be much better.

GTA 6 PC Release Date

If you’re a hardcore PC gamer, then you are only left with two options! You could either wait for about a year, or more, for GTA 6 to release on the PC. Or, the better option would be to purchase a secondary gaming device, like the PlayStation 5. So far, Rockstar Games has not said officially anything about GTA 6’s release date on the PC platform.

Sources suggest that PC users will have to wait for at least 12 months, and the time could stretch up to 18 months. This timeline has been given based on the past releases made by Rockstar Games. Their last major game, Red Dead Redemption 2, was released in 2018 for the PS4 and Xbox One, but eventually made its way to PC in 2019.

Many users think that Rockstar is more favourable towards console gamers. However, the major reason behind the late releases on the PC platform has nothing to do with Rockstar being favourable towards a particular platform. More so, it is actually because porting games to PC takes time. Given the various hardware configurations developers have to work with, it becomes hard for them to optimise the game in a short time.

In the past, Rockstar has done same-day releases for console and PC. However, that hasn’t ended very well, as the PC ports for their games weren’t great. Most of the complaints about the game were filed by users playing the game on PC. So safe to say, Rockstar is likely working on giving the best output to PC gamers!

GTA 6 on Nintendo Switch 2?

Another platform, which has been getting quite popular in recent times, is the Nintendo Switch 2! Released only a couple of weeks back, gamers have been expecting the arrival of Rockstar’s latest and biggest game, GTA 6, on this console. Well, given the improved specifications of the handheld, it is a fair demand from gamers.

Nintendo Switch 2 Rockstar Games

But as of now, there has been no official news or rumors about GTA 6 coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. Gamers have been eagerly awaiting promising news since games like Cyberpunk 2077 were ported to consoles. Not only that, but the recent rumour about Red Dead Redemption 2 has sparked hopes among fans. But till then, we can only make assumptions.

Will GTA 6 have crossplay?

So far, Rockstar Games has not commented anything about the crossplay capabilities of GTA 6.
