Given the popularity of the GTA 5 Online mode, fans have been a bit surprised that Rockstar hasn’t talked or hinted at anything about the GTA 6 Online mode. We’ve had two trailers of the game so far, and a release date, but they have yet to talk about the online mode of the game. So we thought, why not take matters into our own hands? Let’s discuss some fan theories, speculations, and take a look at past online mode releases by Rockstar to get a better idea.
GTA 6 Online Mode
Even though Rockstar hasn’t talked about the Online mode, it is safe to assume that an Online mode is in the works. Well, that’s because GTA Online has been a huge hit for Rockstar ever since the release of GTA 5. Not only that, but GTA Online has also been one of the major sources of revenue for the company, as per their earnings calls.
We asked Ben (@videotechuk_) on X, one of the biggest fan accounts of Rockstar, for his thoughts on whether the Online mode for GTA 6 would be released on the same day as the game. Ben suggested that Rockstar could take a similar approach to what they did with the release of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Past Online Releases
In the past, Rockstar Games has taken some time to release the Online part of their games. GTA 5’s Online mode was added almost 2 weeks after the release of the initial game. Even then, many reported connection issues to the server. Something similar happened with Red Dead Online, where the Online part of the game too, was added much later.
So, given the past releases, it is safe to assume that the Online mode will be released at a later date. The hype surrounding the game is unreal; many analysts have already predicted over $1 billion in pre-orders alone. Rockstar is most likely preparing their servers so that all the load can be handled with ease during the release.

In other news, it was recently reported that a GTA Insider suggests that the Max Payne 3 port may not be happening. The tipster shared that currently, there is no proof that a Max Payne 3 remake/remaster or port is in the works at Rockstar. As per him, the idea of the port was dropped after the poor reception of the GTA Definitive Edition Trilogy.
