Guess what, Liberty City just got a massive glow-up – literally. 😎
A mod developer named “xoxor4d” has done something wild – they’ve managed to bring path tracing to GTA IV using RTX Remix. Yup, that’s the 2008 classic game we all know for its gloomy vibe, heavy cars, and Nico Bellic’s serious face.
And now? It looks like a next-gen game with lighting so real you’d think Rockstar remade it for 2025.
But before you get too hyped, here’s the catch – this mod is still in early development, and things might (well, will) break. Also, it’s currently available only to Patreon supporters of the developer.
What’s Actually Happening?
Modder xoxor4d released an RTX Remix compatibility build for GTA 4. It adds path tracing, a super-advanced lighting technique that makes reflections, shadows, and colors look insanely realistic.
He’s the same guy who previously made RTX Remix mods for games like:
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
- Portal 2
- Left 4 Dead 2 (which even got its own special RTX version called L4D2 RTX NTD)
Basically, he’s the lighting wizard of the modding world right now.
How Can You Get It?

If you want to try this magic yourself, you’ll need to:
- Have the latest GTA IV Complete Edition (v1.2.0.59) from either Steam or Rockstar Games Launcher.
- Subscribe to xoxor4d’s Patreon under the Chocolate Strawberry Advocate Tester tier (around $10/month).
- And yeah… be ready for bugs. Lots of them.
He even mentioned that it’s compatible with Fusion Fix, a mod that fixes tons of GTA 4 issues and adds cool stuff like:
- Adjustable FOV (Field of View)
- Toggle for motion blur, bloom, etc.
- FPS limiter
But again, mixing mods can cause crashes. So if you’re diving in, maybe keep a backup of your save files first.

The Internet Reacts 😂

As expected, Twitter (or X) exploded when news of the mod dropped.
Here’s a quick taste of what gamers had to say:
@loinmin: “lol paying for mods is hilarious”
@googler_ooeric: “Gimme a sec, I’m gonna pay for it and leak it on Kemono Party”
@RinsterX4351: “i can’t see this on his page”
@AgentBoolen: “GTA 4 seems broken in general. If anything this could only help it?”
@gtrunner: “Oh that’s going to get taken down by Rockstar, you can’t even ask for money”
The mood? Total chaos – some people love the idea, some are roasting the paywall, and others just want the files for free. Classic modding community energy. 😂
What Does It Look Like?

Even without changing any original textures, the path-traced GTA 4 looks completely transformed. The lighting reacts naturally, shadows fall perfectly, and the reflections look like something out of a PS5 remaster.
Screenshots show scenes with:
- Shiny wet roads reflecting car headlights
- Warm orange glows from shop lights at night
- Soft daylight shadows giving the whole city more depth
Honestly, the screenshots don’t even do it justice. It’s one of those “you have to see it in motion” kind of upgrades.
What’s Next?
The mod is still in development, so expect glitches, broken effects, or weird performance drops. Even a high-end RTX GPU might struggle since path tracing eats performance like crazy.
But still, it’s exciting to see modders pushing old games into modern-day visuals. Rockstar might never remaster GTA 4 officially, but thanks to creators like xoxor4d, fans can still experience Liberty City in a whole new light – literally.
Final Thoughts
While it sucks that the mod is currently locked behind a Patreon paywall and still buggy, you’ve got to respect the effort. GTA 4 with path tracing? That’s something even Rockstar hasn’t done.
If you’re into modding, lighting tech, or just want to see what’s possible with RTX Remix, keep an eye on this project.
It’s messy, experimental, and probably unstable – but it’s also freaking cool.
Liberty City just got itself a neon makeover, and we’re totally here for it. 💥
