GTA 6 Won’t Save The Gaming Industry, Says Analyst

Despite all the hype, Rockstar’s upcoming game, GTA 6, might not be able to fix the struggling games industry. Well, I’m not saying it, but according to Joost van Dreunen, a NYU Stern professor, while the game is expected to break records, the expert says the idea that a single game can reverse years of industry problems is pretty much unrealistic.

GTA 6 won’t save the Industry

The analyst, Van Dreunen, points out that GTA 6 could sell tens of millions of copies and make billions in its first year. However, even with those massive numbers, it won’t solve all the issues that the gaming industry is facing. He pointed out some major issues in the industry right now, like the rising development costs, mass layoffs, and cancelled projects.

Furthermore, he added to his point and said, “I realize that many in the industry are looking forward to this undoubtedly pivotal moment. There’s even a somewhat naive expectation that this one release will reverse the industry’s current direction. It won’t.”

The analyst pointed out, saying, “After the high comes the hangover.” Expanding further on his statement, he said, “I expect a period of sobriety to follow. In the absence of any similar releases in the near future especially investors are likely to redeploy their capital elsewhere, thereby lowering the industry’s overall valuation,”
