Let’s face it, Rockstar Games has been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately. The big news is that GTA 6 has been delayed to Fall 2026. However, we also have to talk about the elephant in the room, related to employee firings, I mean Union Busting. While Rockstar has released a statement from their side, however, an interesting development has been made to this case. Recently, one of the Rockstar Games employee has shared exactly what went down!
Rockstar Games Employee On The Firings
Just a couple of hours back, right after the news about GTA 6 getting delayed was announced, a post was spotted on the GTAForums! One of the members, had made a post, claiming to be a Rockstar Employee. At the start, no one really believed the claim, however later on, one of the admins at GTAForums confirmed that the story checks out.
For obvious reasons, the creator of the post has remained anonymous, however let’s now see what they said! First of all, they confirmed that they have been an employee at Rockstar Games for many years, however, they did not reveal the exact number so that they cannot be traced by Rockstar. Right after that they revealed the reason for this post.
They said, “I’ve been reading a lot of the discussion on here and elsewhere about the firing of more than 34 of my colleagues last week and have seen a lot of disinformation and lies that are really concerning. Particularly concerning how so many folk are willing to believe the Company’s excuses.”
The Actual Firing
The employee revealed that the fired employees were contacted by their HR Manager for a “quick chat”, however after that their termination notice was handed to them. Furthermore, they also shared the reason for the termination, and according to them, it was done because of “gross misconduct” regarding posts made in Discord. More importantly Rockstar has not provided “any evidence when asked, nor was any stated in the letter.”
Panic Attacks Ignored
In the same post, the employee has revealed that some of the employees who were not in the present that day, received a phone call. He shared that during the call, one of the employee got a panic attack after hearing the news, however, the HR Manager completely ignored them. They said, “I am aware of one employee who had a panic attack at this moment, and HR hung up on them during this panic attack not caring at all about their wellbeing.”
More Info on the Fired Employees
The creator of the post has revealed that many of the employees who have been fired were part of Rockstar Games for a long time! They revealed that the employees were in critical roles. They said, “They are not easily replaced and will certainly affect us in making our project deadlines. These are very senior artists, animators, QA testers, designers, programmers and producers. Including Leads. All super talented people who were proud of their work over multiple R* titles, and all they wanted was the best for R* and their fellow colleagues.”
Furthermore, the post reveals that, some of these members that were fired included those who were on their sick leaves. Some recovering from surgery, and even a few some on their paternity leave. The employee revealed that many have been fired even without pay, and what’s worse it that they could also be losing their Work VISAs in the UK.
Why Was A Union Formed?
While Rockstar Games has been trying to avoid the Union Busting claim, the post says that everyone who has been fired was a Union Member. They revealed that the union was made so that it could allow the employees to negotiate directly with management on the key issues that affect the employees. The creator of the post stated some of the reasons that include, “worsening crunch, inadequate pay and inflexible working arrangements.”
What’s Next?
In the ending note of the post, the employee shared that ever since this incident, other members on the Union have been, “Fearful when talking to each other.” The employee revealed that many are scared of what will happen next. They further stated, “Morale in the studio is at rock bottom. When we should be excited about what’s to come over the next year we are now totally deflated and our trust and confidence in others is totally shot.”
