The GTA 6 delay news was a massive one! Not only has it affected Rockstar Games themselves, but given that now the game comes in November, many game developers are worried too (Yes, I am looking at you, Call of Duty). But it looks like the news is not limited there. Recently, an industry analyst suggested, that this could likely have stirred more things. As even industry giants like Sony & Microsoft could delay their next consoles!
Next-Gen Consoles Could Be Delayed Due to GTA 6?
As reported by IGN, Piers Harding-Rolls, a research director at Ampere Analysis put up a fairly detailed question! He asked, “Could the late arrival of GTA VI delay the launch of next-gen consoles? As the game is such an important driver of hardware sales – not just at launch but over multiple years, Sony and Microsoft will have been wanting a much earlier in the cycle release than late 2026 so they could get the full benefit.”
To which, IGN asked the same to a bunch of analyst! One of the analyst, George Jijiashvili, senior principal analysts at Omdia explained the entire situation and said, “What would Sony actually gain by delaying the PS6? Assuming they’re aiming for a late 2027 release window, that’s already a full year AFTER the launch of GTA 6,”
Furthermore he also said, “Delaying a whole generation for some extra hardware sales driven by people buying GTA 6 over a year after launch? It doesn’t make sense. Also, why would Sony/Microsoft want to prioritize selling current-generation consoles for longer, versus getting people to buy the next-gen consoles As Soon As Possible? Just like GTA 5, GTA 6 will be cross-gen and it will address the PS5/XSX/S generation owners for years to come.”

While it is still to early to say anything about the future generation of consoles, we do know that they’re in development! Sony had recently shared a lot of information about some new tech that could be powering their future consoles. At the same time, leaks have suggested massive upgrades too! Meanwhile, on the Xbox camp, both Microsoft and AMD announced that they’re working together to prepare the platform that would power future hardware!
