Red Dead Redemption 2 Helping People With Dementia
Florencia III Day Center, which is located in Spain, specializes in caring for elderly patients suffering from diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. More recently, they revealed that they’ve been using video games as a way of therapy. They’ve made a therapeutic program called “Golden Gamers” which aims to improve cognitive, emotional, and physical abilities.
This program was attended by around twenty people, and it taught seniors how to play games like Red Dead Redemption 2. A video on YouTube was released by El País which showcased the entire process. In the video, it can be seen that one of the patients refers to Arthur Morgan, the protagonist of the game as ‘Pepe the Cowboy’.

Gloria Sánchez, the director of the Day Center, said, “We discovered, in a supernatural way, interacting with the video game suddenly enhanced all the goals we had been pursuing for so long. It boosted cognitive, physical, and emotional stimulation.” Furthermore, she also said, “It has a very high gamification component that the serious games or programs we had worked with until then couldn’t achieve.”
