New Patent Filed For GTA 6: Reveals Advanced Animation Tech

Rockstar Games always manages to do something groundbreaking in all their releases! The in-depth attention to detail is something that has always been appreciated by gamers. Well, it looks like the same is going to happen with GTA 6 as well. A new patent by Take-Two Interactive has been discovered, which reveals some advanced animation tech, and it is most likely for GTA 6. Let’s check out the patent in detail.

Before we move forward, it is important to note that while the patent has been filed, we’re still unsure if it would be used in the game! That’s because Take-Two Interactive has filed the patent, and not Rockstar, meaning it could be for some other game too. Not only that, but at times, while companies do file patents, they don’t use the said feature in the game.

GTA 6 New Animation Tech

This new information comes right after an 88-page document was spotted by the Content Creator CYBER BOI. The YouTuber made a dedicated video explaining all the features that he was able to find after looking at the document thoroughly. The patent was filed back in September last year, however, it was approved just a few weeks back.

If we dig deeper into the document, it can be seen that the patent is related to animations. The document is fairly detailed, and it goes into explaining the animation tech that has been patented. Basically, unlike traditional methods such as mo-cap, which required recording different characters for different body sizes, with the help of this feature, things would work differently.

What does this feature do?

The Abstract section of the document goes into the technical details and explains, “Fixed-source motion can be dynamically adjusted to variable situations encountered during runtime.” Furthermore, it also says, “The runtime retargeting approaches discussed herein can preserve the intent, visual quality, and essence of such fixed-source motion, while modifying it to meet new physical constraints or goals.”

In simpler terms, what it means is that with the help of this particular feature, it would carry out animations for all characters of different weights and builds with ease. The traditional use of mo-cap was only able to record characters with a certain height and weight. Recording multiple different characters required a lot of resources.

But now, with this feature, things would get a lot smoother. Aside from the NPCs, the online component of GTA 6 could heavily benefit from this feature, as Character customisation would get better. The most important thing is that it would also help save a lot of time for the developers. So hopefully, they can release the game by Fall 2025!
