Rockstar Games has gotten into a lot of trouble with leaks lately. Earlier this year, it was reported that the source code for GTA San Andreas had leaked. However, later it turned out that it was a false alarm. But in a very interesting turn of events, the actual source code for GTA San Andreas got leaked recently. Let’s check out what has happened so far!
GTA San Andreas Source Code Leaked
A user named ‘IAmNotToniCipriani‘ recently posted a few links on the GTA Forums. The links shared by the user were the downloads for GTA San Andreas’ source code. However, they were in partial form, but still, they did reveal a lot of information about the game.
After the source code was leaked, a lot of people were quick enough to look at it. They found out that there were references to Wardrum Studios, which are now known as Grove Street Games. This is the same studio that ported GTA Trilogy originally on mobiles and the Definitive Edition later. A few files are dated before the release of the mobile ports. So it leads to the speculation that they were leaked because of Grove Street Games.

As soon as the news spread out, Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, took no time and took down the files from MediaFire’s server. They issued a DMCA notice, as you can see in the image attached below. This confirms that this time around, the leak was indeed real.
Rockstar Games vs Grove Street Games
The relationship between Grove Street Games and Rockstar Games has not been great either. First of all, after the poor reception of the GTA Trilogy remasters, Rockstar Games removed Grove Street Games’ name from the opening screens of the games.
Back in 2024, Thomas Williamson the CEO of Grove Street Games, posted on Twitter, “It’s a d**k move to remove primary developers from credits in an update, especially when an update includes hundreds of fixes that were provided by those developers that stayed out of players’ hands for years.” Not only that, but Grove Street Games has unfollowed Rockstar Games on Twitter too.
Back in January of this year, GTA San Andreas supposedly had its source code leaked. However, later it turned out that it was fake, and it contained ransomware. Two of the files from the leak were around 3.5 and 1.5 GB each, and they were both Rhysida files, which spread ransomware via phishing attacks.
In other news, it was recently revealed that Rockstar did not take down the mod that brought Liberty City to GTA 5. Rather, it was FiveM who were trying to take it down. You can read the full story from here. Popular GTA 5 Mod ‘Liberty City Preservation Project’ May Still Be Alive
