Games such as Mafia: The Old Country and Borderlands 4 are coming out this year. Because of this, fans have been unsure of the release date for GTA 6. But in a surprising move, the release date for Borderlands 4 has been moved, and since then, fans are speculating this has most likely been done to make space for GTA 6!
Borderlands 4 Release Date
The updated release date was announced by Borderland’s official account via X. They made a post and said, “After careful consideration-along with a lot of meetings, playtesting, and incredible development work, we have made the monumental decision to move up the launch date of Borderlands 4 to September 12.”
In case you forgot, Borderlands 4 was originally supposed to come out on 23rd September. Most reports stated that the release date for the game had most likely been decided based on the other titles being released this year. After that, GTA 6’s release date was speculated. But a sudden change in the release date is a surprising move by Gearbox!
What Does It Mean For GTA 6?
Ever since this news came out about Borderlands 4 moving up its release date by 2 weeks. Gamers have started to speculate that this has most likely been done to make space for GTA 6. However, I hate to break it down to you, but this move has no relation to GTA 6. Some people suggested that this has most likely been done because of Bungie. As their latest game, Marathon, comes out around the same time.
But Gearbox’s CEO, Randy Pitchford, ruled out any speculations or rumours after his tweet. He said, “Borderlands 4 shipping early is 100% the result of confidence in the game and development trajectory backed by actual tasks and bug find/fix rates. Our decision is literally 0% about any other product’s actual or theoretical launch date.”

In other news, it was recently reported that GTA 5 was the most watched game on Twitch in 2024. The game had over 1.4 billion hours watched globally last year. Other games on the list included esports and multiplayer games like Valorant, League of Legends, Fortnite, and Call of Duty.
